
Golf concludes day one at the Valspar Collegiate

PALM CITY, Florida – The Marquette University men's golf team completed first and second round action at the Valspar Collegiate on Monday at the Floridian Golf Course in Palm City, Florida.
Redshirt sophomore Nicolás Evangelio fired a 2-over 144 (74-70) to lead the Golden Eagles in 32nd place individually. Marquette sits 11th on the team leaderboard with 593 strokes after shooting rounds of 299 and 294 in the first and second rounds, respectively.
Evangelio and Josh Robinson each led the way for MU with an opening-round 3-over 74 on Monday morning. Robinson, who began play on the 18th hole, shot a 1-under 34 on the front nine in his first round before closing with four bogeys in the final eight holes on the back.
Evangelio shot Marquette's lone round under par on Monday with a 1-under 70 in the second round, including three birdies on holes 4-8. Tyler Leach (75-75) and Aidan Lafferty (76-74) sit in a tie for 47th place with 150 strokes (8-over).
Eight of the 11 squads in this week's field are ranked or receiving votes in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches' Poll, headlined by No. 3 Florida State, T-4 Arizona State, No. 6 Pepperdine and No. 8 Clemson. The Golden Eagles faced ASU and Pepperdine in their last tournament at The Prestige On Feb. 14-17 in La Quinta, California.

The Golden Eagles are paired with tournament-host Houston and the individual golfers in Tuesday's third round and will go off the 10th tee at 8:15 a.m. Central Time.
