
Eichhorn fires 2-under 69 final round at Valspar Collegiate

PALM CITY, Florida – Redshirt junior Hunter Eichhorn fired a 2-under 69 for the Marquette University men's golf team in final round action at the Valspar Collegiate on Tuesday at the Floridian Golf Course in Palm City, Florida.
The Golden Eagles finished in 11th place at 36-over par (299-294-295--888) and Eichhorn was their top finisher in a tie for 40th place at 8-over (77-75-69--221). Beginning the final round on the back nine, Eichhorn fired two birdies and an eagle in his first four holes of the morning. He made the turn with a 1-under 35 following a double on No. 18, and played a clean front nine before ending his tournament with a birdie on the par-4 ninth.
The Carney, Michigan native fought his way back from a 6-over 77 in Monday morning's first round and a 4-over 75 in the second of the day.
Redshirt freshman Aidan Lafferty ended his event with back-to-back rounds of 3-over 74 and tied for 46th place with a three-round score of 224 (76-74-74). Classmate Josh Robinson concluded Tuesday's action just one stroke behind Lafferty on the overall leaderboard with a final round 74 himself. For the tournament he shot a 225 (74-77-74).
Redshirt sophomore Nicolás Evangelio was Marquette's leader after day one with a 1-under 70 first round, but finished as MU's fifth on Tuesday with a final round 85.
Eight of the 11 squads in the field are ranked or receiving votes in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches' Poll, headlined by No. 3 Florida State, T-4 Arizona State, No. 6 Pepperdine and No. 8 Clemson. Florida State was Tuesday's champion at 21-under 831, while Wake Forest was four strokes behind at 17-under.

The Golden Eagles have a week off before traveling to Awendaw, South Carolina to take part in the Hootie Collegiate at Bulls Bay Golf Club in an event hosted by the University of South Carolina.
