
#MUWBB Hosts Creighton for Final BIG EAST Home Game

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette women's basketball team hosts the Creighton Bluejays for its final BIG EAST home game on Monday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. Central time on FS1. Lisa Byington (play-by-play) and Michelle Griffin-Wenzel (analyst) will be on the call.

The Golden Eagles (15-4, 12-3 BIG EAST) sit in second place in the BIG EAST while the Bluejays (7-8, 6-5 BIG EAST) are in sixth place. Both teams have three conference games to go before the BIG EAST tournament begins on March 6.

MU has gone 3-0 with wins over Butler, Providence and Villanova after coming off their most challenging weekend of the season in which they faced No. 3/5 UConn and No. 20/21 DePaul in a three-day span. MU fell to the Huskies, 87-58, and to the Blue Demons, 87-82.

MU is anchored by seniors Selena Lott (15.2 ppg.) and Lauren Van Kleunen (12.6 ppg.) and returned eight contributors from last season. This includes BIG EAST All-Freshman Team selection Camryn Taylor, who's averaging 11.0 points and a team-best 6.7 rebounds.

MU has typically gone with a nine-player rotation this season with sophomore Jordan King (9.9 ppg.) and Chloe Marotta (6.6 reb.) joining the starters. Claire Kaifes, Liza Karlen, Taylor Valladay and Antwainette Walker all play between 8-20 minutes per game.

Lott has developed into one of the top all-around players in the country in 2020-21. She leads the team in scoring, assists, steals, blocks, 3-point and free throw percentage. She ranks in the top 10 individually in the BIG EAST in seven statistical categories.

Creighton is coming off of its biggest win of the season, an 83-72 win at No. 19 DePaul. The victory was Creighton's 10th over a top-25 team under Jim Flanery, and sixth in the past four seasons. The Bluejays have won three straight games, all of which were on the road.

• The Marquette women's basketball team completed the season sweep over Villanova with a 65-57 win on Friday evening.
• Selena Lott filled the box score on both ends of the court, posting game-highs in points (22), rebounds (11), assists (6) and steals (3) to lead the Golden Eagles. Lauren Van Kleunen tallied 15 points and Camryn Taylor joined her in double figures with 10 points and eight rebounds.
SCOUTING THE BLUEJAYS – ALL-TIME SERIES
• As a group, CU brought back nine players from 2019-20, with a combined 4,207 minutes and 1,183 points.
• For CU in 2020-21, health and injury challenges have forced head coach Jim Flanery to use ten unique starting lineups in 15 games. No group of five has started more than three games this season.
• The Bluejays are coming off a win over No. 19 DePaul on Friday. In the win over the Blue Demons, Creighton shot 58.0% (29-for-50). That mark was the Bluejays' best since knocking down 31-of-53 shots at North Dakota State on Nov. 9, 2018.

• The Golden Eagles are 30-1 under Coach Duffy when leading at halftime and 20-1 when they turn the ball over fewer times than their opponent.
• MU is 11-1 when scoring more than 80 points under Coach Duffy and 26-3 when shooting more free throws than its opponent. The Golden Eagles have scored 80-or-more points six times this year (5-1).
• In the 51 games of the Coach Duffy era, the Golden Eagles have out-rebounded or tied their opponent 48 times (37-11 record). They'll look to continue that streak this week.

• The Golden Eagles will #Play4Kay on Monday night against Creighton to honor legendary former NC State Head Coach Kay Yow. In her 38 years as a college head coach, Coach Yow was one of only six Division I women's basketball head coaches to achieve 700 career victories. She passed away in 2009 after a 22-year battle with breast cancer.
• MU will wear pink warmup shirts, headbands and shoelaces to honor Yow. Several cancer survivors will introduce the team on the scoreboard prior to opening tip-off.
