#MUWBB Beats Bluejays in Final Home Game

Lauren Van Kleunen scored a team-high 20 points
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's basketball team defeated Creighton 65-41 on Monday evening at the Al McGuire Center. With the win, MU clinches a top three seed at next week's BIG EAST tournament.
Redshirt senior Lauren Van Kleunen scored a game-high 20 points while fellow senior Selena Lott once again filled the box score with 10 points, 11 assists and six steals to lead the Golden Eagles (16-4, 14-3 BIG EAST) to their fourth straight victory. Camryn Taylor joined the senior pair in double figures with 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds, narrowly missing her third double double of the season.
MU started the game on a 6-0 run and led wire-to-wire, leading by as many as 26 points in the second half. The Golden Eagles scored 38 points in the paint, forced a season-high 22 turnovers and created 23 points off those turnovers while holding the Bluejays to below 30 percent shooting from the field.
LVK scored 14 of her 20 points in the first half, including 12 in the first quarter to lead a 13-0 MU run to close the first 10 minutes. Lott helped her carry the load on both ends of the court, scoring seven points while dishing out eight assists, grabbing four boards, four steals and blocking two shots in the first half.Â
After leading 33-22 at halftime, MU started to put its foot on the gas in the third quarter, going on a 13-2 run in a five minute stretch to balloon its lead up to 18 points. The Bluejays would get no closer the rest of the way as the Golden Eagles' impressive defensive effort led them to their 13th conference win of the season.
MU held CU to a season-low 41 points and just 29.4 percent shooting from the field.
Emma Ronsiek was the only Bluejay in double figures with 10 points. Morgan Maly chipped in eight points.
POSTGAME NOTES:
-Marquette tied or won the rebounding battle for the 49th time in the 52 games of the Coach Duffy era (37 to 33 edge).
-MU has now won at least 13 conference games in its first two years under Coach Duffy. The team is 40-12 (.769) overall under her watch.
-The Golden Eagles moved to 10-0 this season when holding an opponent under 40 percent shooting from the field. It's their third time holding an opponent under 30 percent shooting.
-Lauren Van Kleunen (20 points) reached double figures for the 15th time this season and 45th time in her career. It was her sixth career 20-point game. She's now 51 points from 1,000 in her career.
-Camryn Taylor (14 points) reached double figures for the 13th time this season and 24th time in her career. She missed earning her fourth career double double by just one rebound.
-Selena Lott (10 points, 11 assists) tallied her second straight double double. She also reached double figures for the 15th time this year and 47th time in her career. She also five six assists, her 32nd career game with five-or-more assists.
-Lott had six steals to bring her career total to 209, which ranks No. 10 all-time at Marquette. Six steals also ties a career-high for her.
-Lott is in 26th place all-time in scoring at MU. She now has 1,109 points, 24 short of Lori Goerlitz in 25th place.
-Taylor Valladay (six points) was the only player off the bench to score for MU.
