
Sarah Rose serves first point; Theis wins No. 300

The Golden Eagles swept Iowa State on Saturday afternoon
MILWAUKEE – Sarah Rose recorded an ace for the match's first point as the No. 24 Marquette Women's Volleyball team swept Iowa State in three straight sets (25-15, 25-19, 29-27) on Saturday afternoon at the Al McGuire Center.Â
An honorary starter, Rose was recognized by the Golden Eagles for her battle against Ewing's Sarcoma, a form of pediatric bone cancer. Marquette head coach Ryan Theis also recorded his 300th career win on Saturday afternoon and his 156th at MU.
The Golden Eagles (8-2) were led by Hannah Vanden Berg's career-high 14 kills, while Taylor Wolf had a triple-double with 12 kills, 22 assists and 13 digs. Vanden Berg hit .480 (14-2-25) in the victory and MU combined to hit .357 as a squad.
Marquette cruised to a 25-15 win in the first set, and a 25-19 win in the second. Â
The Golden Eagles buckled down in the third set after reaching five set-points, finally ending the game with a block by Savanah Rennie and Wolf. Wolf led the team, hitting .579 (12-1-19) on the day. Her last two kills of the third set to put Marquette up 27-26, and 28-27.Â
ISU (6-10), which hit .155 was led by Eleanor Holthaus with 10 kills, Piper Mauck with 23 assists and 10 digs, and Avery Rhodes with four blocks.
The Golden Eagles wore their gold jerseys on Saturday in support of Rose as part of Marquette's #Gold4Sarah campaign.
