Lauren Van Kleunen scored a team-high 18 points
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's basketball team fell 87-58 to the No. 3/5 UConn Huskies on Friday night at the Al McGuire Center.
Lauren Van Kleunen led MU with 18 points and six rebounds while Camryn Taylor tallied 10 points and 11 boards. Taylor Valladay also chipped in seven points and a pair of assists.
The Huskies found a way to get in the paint early and often, tallying 30 of its 41 first half points in the paint while shooting 62.1 percent (18/29) from the field. Freshman guard Paige Bueckers scored 13 of her game-high 30 points in the first 20 minutes of play.
MU struggled to find its scoring touch early on, shooting just 30.3 percent (10-33) in the first half. LVK provided the most consistent offense with eight points on 4-of-7 shooting while also tacking on five rebounds. The Golden Eagles trailed 41-22 at the half.
The Golden Eagles were able to cut into the Huskies lead in the third quarter, going on a 10-2 run on the back of a pair of Liza Karlen 3-pointers to get back within 17 points at 61-44.
That would be as close as MU would get as the Huskies outscored the Golden Eagles 26-13 the rest of the way.
Paige Bueckers led UConn with 30 points while Christyn Williams had 18 and Aaliyah Edwards added in 11.
POSTGAME NOTES:
-Marquette tied or won the rebounding battle for the 44th time in the 47 games of the Coach Duffy era (32 to 32).
-Lauren Van Kleunen (18 points) reached double figures for the 11th time this season and 41st time in her career.
-Camryn Taylor (10 points, 11 rebounds) tallied her third career double double.
