The Golden Eagles led after three sets but could not close out the Bluejays

OMAHA, Nebraska – The No. 25 Marquette University women's volleyball team fell in five sets, 3-2 (25-13, 23-25, 25-20, 15-11), at No. 19 Creighton on Friday evening at D.J. Sokol Arena in a non-conference match.

The Golden Eagles (3-2) were led by a triple-double from Taylor Wolf (12 kills, 16 assists, 12 digs), while fellow graduate transfer Savannah Rennie posted 10 kills on .444 hitting with four blocks.

Creighton (4-1) hit .440 on its way to a first set win and closed the match by hitting .357 in the decisive fifth frame. The Bluejays notched 10 more blocks than MU (16-6), led by 11 from Naomi Hickman.
Marquette was able to win the second set, 25-20, and hit .314 to claim a third set, 25-23, that had 10 tie scores and five lead changes.
That Jays defense limited the Golden Eagles to a .100 attack percentage (49-33-160) in the match as MU's outside hitters were limited.Â
All-BIG EAST Preseason selection Jaela Zimmerman landed a match-high 19 kills and added 15 digs for the Bluejays.
Creighton has won each of the last eight matches against Marquette and holds a 20-4 advantage in the all-time series, which began in October 1980.Â
The Golden Eagles face Creighton again on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. Central time in Omaha before starting BIG EAST Conference action on Friday, Feb. 12 against DePaul in Milwaukee. Creighton comes to Marquette on Feb. 19-20 for a pair of matches at the Al McGuire Center.
