WSOC begins BIG EAST play Sunday at DePaul

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women's soccer team begins BIG EAST Conference action on Sunday afternoon in Chicago at Wish Field against DePaul.
Sunday's match against DePaul will air live at 1 p.m. Central time on the DePaul All-Access Player at DePaulBlueDemons.com.
The Golden Eagles (2-0) began the 2020-21 campaign with a pair of victories on Feb. 5-7 in Milwaukee, a 5-0 triumph over Chicago State in the season opener and a 3-2 win over Illinois State on March 7.
Head coach Frank Pelaez's squad has also defeated Loyola Chicago and Northern Illinois in exhibition play since that opening weekend.
Senior Kylie Sprecher earned TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week and BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for her contribution to MU's 2-0 start. The Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin native scored once in the season-opening 5-0 win over CSU and posted a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win over ISU.
Freshman forward Elsi Twombly was also recognized as the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. She scored the final goal in MU's win over Chicago State in her collegiate debut and added another in the 59th minute against the Redbirds. The Appleton, Wisconsin native also contributed heavily in MU's exhibition matches against LUC and NIU.
The Blue Demons have played just one regular season contest, a 2-1 victory over Valparaiso on Feb. 22. They also fell 3-1 to Vanderbilt on Saturday, Feb. 27 in exhibition play. Sydney Parker recorded the match winner against Valpo in the 90th minute as the Blue Demons out-shot the Crusaders, 14-4. She was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday on a DePaul roster that includes BIG EAST Preseason Team selections Morgan Turner and Kristin Boos.
The Blue Demons head to Butler on Thursday afternoon before hosting MU on Sunday.
Marquette leads in the all-time series against DePaul 15-6-2, but lost in a 4-0 decision the last time they played in 2019.
Following this weekend, the Golden Eagles continue BIG EAST action in a 2 p.m. Thursday kickoff on March 11 at Butler.
