NEW YORK - The Marquette University men's basketball team opened play at the BIG EAST Tournament, presented by Jeep, with a 68-49 loss to Georgetown in the first round Wednesday afternoon in Madison Square Garden.

Guard D.J. Carton led the Golden Eagles (13-14) with 17 points and also chipped in six rebounds and six assists, but was the only MU player in double figures.

Marquette trailed 32-14 at the intermission after shooting just 21.4 percent (6-of-28) from the floor as a team. MU's first half point total marked its lowest since it scored 14 in the opening 20 minutes against Wisconsin on Dec. 6, 2014. Carton led the way with seven points prior to intermission.
