
MLAX drops 10-3 decision at No. 8 Notre Dame

The Golden Eagles return to BIG EAST play on Saturday at St. John's
NOTRE DAME, Indiana – The Marquette University men's lacrosse team fell to No. 8 Notre Dame, 10-3, on Wednesday afternoon at Arlotta Stadium in Notre Dame, Indiana.
Devon Cowan, Garrett Moya and Holden Patterson scored goals for the Golden Eagles (0-5), while redshirt freshman Sean Richard made 12 saves and conceded nine goals.
Moya scored MU's first goal at the 9:55 mark of the opening quarter to pull within one, 2-1, before the Irish reeled off seven straight for a 9-1 lead. Patterson answered on the extra man just 1:43 prior to halftime to halt that run, and the two teams combined to score just two second half goals.Â
ND points leader Pat Kavanagh posted a goal and five assists, Liam Entenmann made 18 saves and nine different players scored for the Fighting Irish (3-0). Will Yorke scored twice and was the game's lone player with more than one tally.
Kavanagh entered the game leading the Irish with 15 points on two goals and 13 assists and is the younger brother of former ND standout Matt Kavanagh and 2020 MU volunteer assistant Brendan Kavanagh.
Notre Dame face-off specialists Kyle Gallagher and Charles Leonard, who have combined to win 78.4% at the dot this season, won 11-of-16 on the day.
Marquette is 0-9 all-time against Notre Dame in program history, with three of those losses coming by just one goal. The Irish have been ranked in the top-10 in all but one meeting and are 6-0 when playing at Arlotta Stadium.Â
The Golden Eagles return to BIG EAST Conference action on Saturday, March 20 against St. John's in Queens, New York. It will be the first of back-to-back games against the Red Storm for the Golden Eagles, who will host SJU on Saturday, March 27 in Milwaukee.
