
WSOC Hosts DePaul, Butler This Week

DePaul visits Thursday at 12 p.m. CT, Butler at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday
The Marquette University women's soccer team (4-2-0, 2-2-0 BIG EAST) hosts a pair of critical BIG EAST Conference matches this week at Valley Fields.
The Golden Eagles welcome DePaul (3-2-0, 2-2-0 BIG EAST) at 12 p.m. CT on Thursday, March 25 before hosting first-place Butler (7-1-0, 4-1-0 BIG EAST) on Sunday, March 28 at 1 p.m. CT.
This week marks the start of the second half of the home-and-home BIG EAST schedule, with the top two finishers in each division earning bids to the conference tournament. Â MU is currently tied for second with DePaul at 2-2-0, but owns the tiebreaker courtesy of a 2-0 victory against the Blue Demons on March 7. Â Butler tops the Midwest Division with a 4-1-0 record and defeated the Golden Eagles 1-0 on March 11 with a late second-half goal.
No. 15/18 Georgetown leads the East Division with a 6-0-0 record and has won all eight of its matches in 2021. Â Butler is receiving votes in both of the national polls.
Marquette is 3-0-0 this season at home, most recently defeating Xavier 3-1 last week. Â The Golden Eagles have been able to take advantage of the controlled environment in the dome, especially offensively, outscoring opponents 9-3.
Freshman Elsi Twombly and senior Kylie Sprecher lead the team with seven points, with each player finding the back of the next on three occasions this season. Â The duo is currently tied for eighth in the league in points per game (1.17). Â
Newcomer Lauren Schill has assumed the starting role in goal and is third in the conference in saves per game (4.0).
