MU will play the Wildcats again on Sunday
VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Marquette women's lacrosse team fell 19-15 to the Villanova Wildcats on Friday afternoon at Villanova Stadium.
Senior attacker Caroline Steller tallied four goals and an assist to pace the offensive attack for the Golden Eagles (3-6, 0-3 BIG EAST). Junior midfielder Lydia Foust scored four goals, tallying her fourth hat trick of the season. Redshirt freshman Leigh Steiner tallied two goals with a pair of draw controls while Madison Kane had a couple goals as well.
The two teams went back-and-forth early on in the matinee BIG EAST battle. Villanova scored first and led by no more than two goals after 22 minutes of play in the first half. Foust had a pair of goals in the first half while Menzuber, Soccodato and Steiner had one each.Â
MU trailed 6-5 at the 7:49 mark of the half, but the Wildcats scored five unanswered goals in the final seven minutes to break the game open and take an 11-5 lead into the break.
VU picked up where it left off and netted the first goal of the second half to take a game-high seven-goal lead. Caroline Steller tried her best to help MU mount a second half comeback, scoring all four of her goals in the final 20 minutes of the game. Madison Kane scored two second half goals as well, but MU would get no closer than four goals within the Wildcats, ultimately falling 19-15.
Katie Comerford led Villanova with six goals and three assists while Brittany Bruno tallied five goals and two assists. Leading scorer Libby McKenna dished out a team-high four assists.

Marquette was outshot 39-35 and lost the draw control battle 22-13. Senior goalie Sophia Leva started while redshirt senior Julianna Horning came off the bench. Each had five saves on the afternoon.
