
Dawson Garcia Named To BIG EAST All-Freshman Team

Forward Dawson Garcia of the Marquette University men's basketball team has been named to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team, the league office announced Sunday afternoon.

The Prior Lake, Minnesota, native was a unanimous selection in a poll of the league's head coaches. Garcia is ranked among the conference leaders in six categories and was named the league's freshman of the week on three occasions in 2020-21.

Through games of March 6, he is ranked among the league leaders in scoring (14th, 13.2 ppg.), rebounding (9th, 6.7 rpg.), field goal percentage (12th, .480), free throw percentage (10th, .784), defensive rebounds (14th, 4.4 drpg.) and offensive rebounds (7th, 2.2 orpg.).

Garcia is the top-ranked freshman in both scoring and rebounding and has scored double figures in 13 league outings, including 20-or-more points six times.

The Golden Eagles have had at least one player honored each year since the program began league affiliation with the Midwestern Collegiate Conference in 1989-90.
