
Cowan on BIG EAST MLAX Honor Roll

The redshirt freshman's six goals against GU is MU's single-game high since 2017
NEW YORK – Marquette University redshirt freshman attackman Devon Cowan was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll for men's lacrosse, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Cowan scored a career-high six goals, including a third quarter hat trick, in Saturday's 10-8 loss to No. 10 Georgetown, the nation's top ranked scoring defense. Cowan scored MU's first two goals of the game and helped the Golden Eagles to an 8-7 lead entering the fourth quarter.
His single-game goal total is the second highest mark in Marquette history and the most since Tanner Thomson posted the same number against St. John's on April 8, 2017. Cowan leads MU this season with 20 goals and 26 points, and has scored in each of his last 13 games.
He was previously named to the weekly honor roll on March 2 after posting six points on four goals and two assists against Villanova on Feb. 27.
The Golden Eagles continue BIG EAST play on Wednesday with a noon Central time matchup against St. John's at Valley Fields.

Matt Grillo, Providence, Jr., A (Setauket, N.Y.)
Providence junior attacker Matt Grillo had a seven-point outing in a 19-9 win over St. John's on Saturday. Grillo scored five of the 19 goals and assisted two. Grillo scored the fifth, 10th, 11th, 12th and 16th Providence goals as the Friars advanced to 3-5 in the league. Grillo also picked up three ground balls.

Lucas Cotler, Denver, Grad, M (Syosset, N.Y.)
Denver's Lucas Cotler scored three goals and added an assist in No. 6 Denver's 17-10 win over No. 16 Villanova on Saturday. Cotler had a second-half hat trick, including two goals as part of a 10-goal third quarter that created a gap between Denver and Villanova in a top-20 battle at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.

BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Toby Burgdorf, Providence, Sr., GK
Providence senior goalkeeper Toby Burgdorf had 15 saves between the pipes for the Friars as he allowed just nine St. John's goals for a .625 save percentage and the win. Burgdorf has a 4-6 record with a .490 save percentage and a 12.87 goals against average.

TJ Haley, Georgetown, Fr., A (Shady Side, Md.)
Georgetown freshman TJ Haley continued to add more stats to a successful rookie season as he dished out four assists in the Hoyas' 10-8 win at Marquette on Saturday. He also added two caused turnovers on the ride. Haley has 37 assists on the year, tying him for second most in a campaign with Lucas Wittenberg in 2019. He is five shy of tying the record. Georgetown had assists on all 10 goals. Haley has been named Freshman of the Week six times.

Thompson made 12 saves against nine goals allowed in the win over No. 16 Villanova, 17-10.

McElroy earned the win and made nine saves in a 10-8 win for Georgetown over Marquette. He also picked up two ground balls. He held Marquette scoreless for the final 17:26 of the game.
