Eichhorn tied for second, MU third, at Hawkeye Invitational

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Redshirt junior Hunter Eichhorn is tied for second at 6-under par and the Marquette University men's golf team sits third after 36 holes at the Hawkeye Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course.

Eichhorn opened the day with a 2-under 70 before turning in a 4-under 68 in the second round. He's tied with Harry Hillier of Kansas and one shot ahead of Iowa's Mac McClear. Alex Schaake of Iowa holds the individual lead at 11-under par and posted a first round 65 on Saturday morning.

Eichhorn moved seven spots up the leaderboard with his second round 68. The Carney, Michigan native began his round on No. 9 and gained five strokes on holes 14-18, including an eagle on the par-5 15th. He dropped a pair of strokes with bogeys on Nos. 1 and 2 after making the turn, but gained a stroke with a birdie on No. 5.

Redshirt sophomore Nicolás Evangelio turned in MU's other eagle on the par-5 second hole and ended his day with a 3-over 75 in the second round. He sits in a tie for 27th at 3-over (72-75--147), posting four birdies in the first round and two in the second.

Josh Robinson, playing in MU's No. 5 slot, turned in an impressive second round, carding six birdies to come in with a 3-under 69. He fired a 1-over 73 in the first round and sits in a tie for 10th at 2-under for the tournament.

MU's No. 2, Tyler Leach, carded consecutive even-par 72s on Saturday and is tied for 15th, while Aidan Lafferty is tied for 42nd at 6-over.

Sunday's third and final round is set for 8:30 a.m. Central time at Finkbine Golf Course.
