
Golf begins Calusa Cup action on Easter Sunday

The Golden Eagles compete in Naples, Florida in an event hosted by Iowa
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's golf team heads to Naples, Florida this weekend to take part in the Calusa Cup from Sunday, April 4 through Tuesday, April 6.
The Golden Eagles are in action just five days after their last event at The Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on March 28-30 in Awendaw, South Carolina.

THE EVENT
The Calusa Cup is hosted by the University of Iowa at the Calusa Pines Golf Club. The tournament features eight other teams including Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, Purdue, Texas and Wake Forest. Tee times begin at 11:30 a.m. CT on Sunday and 7 a.m. CT on Monday and Tuesday.

THE COURSE
Calusa Pines was named among the "Top Ten Best New Private Golf Clubs," In the United States according to Golf Digest. The course features rolling fairways, large sand traps and other obstacles that seem to blend in with the surrounding vegetation and the Florida climate.

Head coach Steve Bailey: "Once again we have an opportunity to compete against the top ranked teams in the country on arguably the best golf course in Florida. We are fortunate to be a part of the inaugural event and Calusa will provide a great challenge."

MARQUETTE'S LINEUP
Hunter Eichhorn, Tyler Leach, Aidan Lafferty, Nicolás Evangelio, Josh Robinson
Eichhorn earned the seventh career BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week after tying for fifth at The Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on March 28-30 with a 6-under par 210 (70-68-72). The Carney, Michigan native, who entered Tuesday's final round tied for second and just two strokes from the lead, recorded an even-par 72 in the event's final round. He shot a 4-under 68 in Monday's second round and ended the week with three rounds of par-or-better, including a 2-under 70 in Sunday's first. It was the 10th top-five finish of his career.
Nicolás Evangelio, who tied for 49th overall at The Hootie, carded a team-high five birdies on Monday and kept that momentum going with a team-low 1-under 71 on Tuesday with another five birdies. He finished at 4-over par for the week (75-74-71--220).

UP NEXT
The Golden Eagles have a week off following the Calusa Cup and return to action on April 17-18 when they travel to Iowa City to take part in the Hawkeye Invitational. It is their last tournament before the BIG EAST Championships on April 26-28 at Streamsong Resort in Bowling Green,, Florida.
