
Cowan and Richard earn BIG EAST Weekly Awards

Cowan is the attackman of the week and Richard earns top freshman honors
NEW YORK – Marquette University redshirt freshmen Devon Cowan and Sean Richard were each honored with weekly awards by the BIG EAST Conference, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Cowan claimed BIG EAST Attack Player of the Week, while Richard was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after the pair helped the Golden Eagles to a 2-0 record with overtime wins against St. John's and Providence.Â
Cowan led Marquette with five goals and seven points, including a four-overtime winner at Providence on Saturday. He posted a hat trick and assist to lead all players in Wednesday's OT win over St. John's and notched two goals and an assist at PC. His game winner against the Friars came with three seconds remaining in the fourth overtime period.
Cowan leads MU this season with 25 goals and 33 points, and has scored in each of his last 15 games. He was previously named to the weekly honor roll on March 2 and April 13.
Richard made 30 saves in the first two conference wins of his career and posted a .682 save percentage with a 6.11 goals against average in 137:31. The redshirt freshman tied a MU program record with 18 saves against the Friars on Saturday while allowing just six goals in 75:57 in net.
The honor is the first such award of his career and MU's first top freshman honor since Jake Stegman on March 4 of last season.
The Golden Eagles continue BIG EAST play on Saturday with an 11 a.m. Central time matchup at Villanova.

Devon Cowan, Marquette, R-Fr., A (Mount Laurel, N.J.)
Marquette attacker Devon Cowan led the Golden Eagles to a 2-0 week with five goals and two assists for seven points, including the game-winning goal in the fourth overtime at Providence. He posted a hat trick and an assist to lead all players in Wednesday's 9-8 win over St. John's. One of his goals was the game-tying goal (7-7) at 8:22 in the fourth. Cowan notched two goals an assist at Providence.

BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week
James Reilly, Georgetown, Jr., FOS (Berwyn, Pa.)
Georgetown junior James Reilly won 16-of-24 faceoffs (.667) in an 11-10 overtime win against then-No. 6 Denver on Saturday. In overtime, Reilly won the faceoff cleanly in OT to put the Hoyas in position for victory. The victory was the first for Georgetown over Denver in the regular season. Reilly effectively neutralized the Pioneer faceoff combination of TD Ierlan (4-for-12) and Alec Stathakis (4-for-12), two of the top faceoff specialists in the NCAA. Reilly also picked up nine ground balls.

BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Owen McElroy, Georgetown, Sr., GK (Ridgewood, N.J.)
Georgetown senior goalie Owen McElroy earned the win on Saturday over then-No. 6 Denver, 11-10 in overtime. McElory saved 14 Pioneer attempts as he registered his ninth win of the season. The senior had a .583 save percentage, and he held Denver's high-scoring offense to just two thirds of their average input (15.0 goals per game). McElroy was also credited with two assists, helping with the second and third goals for GU. His stats also included one caused turnover and one ground ball.

Sean Richard, Marquette, R-Fr., GK (Northville, Mich.)
Marquette's Sean Richard made 30 saves in a 2-0 week between the pipes with two overtime victories: 9-8 OT win vs. St. John's and 7-6 in four overtimes against Providence. Richard tied a MU program record with 18 saves against the Friars on Saturday, while allowing just six goals in 75:57 of game action. The redshirt freshman posted a .682 save percentage while notching a 6.11 goals against average in 137:31 minutes of play.

Toby Burgdorf, Providence
Burgdorf saved 15 Marquette attempts during a four-overtime loss. He posted a .683 save percentage.
Jonathan Huber, St. John's
Registered six goals and an assist in an 0-2 week for SJU. Huber scored four in a 23-8 loss to SJU.
Matt Campbell, Villanova
Campbell had a game high six goals during Villanova's 23-8 win over St. John's. The junior also had an assist to finish with seven points.Â
