WTEN Falls To Xavier 4-0 In BIG EAST Quarterfinals

MU's season ends against No. 1 seed

The Marquette University women's tennis team (6-8) saw its season come to an end with a 4-0 loss to Xavier (15-3) at the 2021 BIG EAST Championships presented by Jeep Friday morning in Cayce, S.C.

The Musketeers are the top-seeded team in the field and defeated Marquette for the second time in less than a week. MU advanced to the quarterfinals with a 4-0 win over Georgetown on Thursday morning.

Xavier opened the match by claiming the doubles point and then posted straight-set wins at the No. 3, 5 and 6 to clinch the team victory. Once a team reaches four points, the remaining matches on court are suspended.

"We made some good progress this season during a difficult year, but there is still plenty of room to grow as a team," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "Everyone was able to gain some valuable experience and we look forward to getting back on the court as a team in the fall."
