D.J. Carton To Pursue Professional Career

Guard entering NBA Draft, hiring agent

Sophomore guard D.J. Carton of the Marquette University men's basketball team is leaving the program to pursue a career in professional basketball.

"I would like to thank Marquette University, Coach Smart and my teammates for their support throughout my decision process," Carton said. "I will be putting my name in for consideration in the 2021 NBA Draft and hiring an agent. I am thankful for the opportunity and looking forward to the next step in my career."

Carton played one season with the Golden Eagles after transferring from Ohio State. He concluded the 2020-21 campaign averaging 13.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in an average of 31.1 minutes per night. He started 24-of-27 outings.

"We fully support D.J.'s decision and wish him all the best as he pursues his professional career," head coach Shaka Smart said. "We have enjoyed getting to know him over the past few weeks and we appreciate his contributions to the program."
