BOWLING GREEN, Florida – Marquette University's Hunter Eichhorn earned co-medialist honors at the 2021 BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship Presented by JEEP, with a final round 1-under-par 71 on Wednesday at the Streamsong Resort Blue Course in Bowling Green, Florida.
Eichhorn entered the day trailing Butler's Michael Cascino by one stroke and went up three after the turn in the final round. The redshirt junior was 5-under with five birdies after a make on No. 12, but three bogeys over the final six holes allowed Cascino to catch Eichhorn on No. 18. Cascino then topped Eichhorn on the third playoff hole for the BIG EAST's automatic individual berth to the NCAA Championship.
Eichhorn also won the individual crown at the BIG EAST Championship as a freshman in 2018 and earns medalist honors for the fifth time in his career.
Redshirt sophomore Nicolás Evangelio (73-69-77--219) joined Eichhorn in the top-10 overall at his first BIG EAST Championship, tying for 10th at 3-over for the tournament. Evangelio was in the top five before a triple bogey on the par-5 17th dropped him down the leaderboard.
The Golden Eagles (286-296-296--875) entered the day two strokes behind tournament-champion UConn and led the Huskies approaching the 17th hole. Evangelio and Tyler Leach each recorded triple bogeys on the par-5 17th, while four other bogeys on the final two holes from MU golfers pushed MU out of contention.
Marquette fell short of defending its 2019 team title, losing to UConn (292-285-292--869) by six strokes.
