Hailey Block's second goal of year proves to be game winner
The Marquette University women's soccer team (6-4-0, 4-4-0 BIG EAST) concluded its 2021 campaign with a 1-0 win at Xavier (3-6-0, 2-4-0 BIG EAST) Thursday afternoon in BIG EAST Conference action.

MU concludes the regular season with a share of second place in the Midwest Division, but Creighton claims the bid to the league tournament by virtue of a season sweep in the home-and-home series this spring.
Â
The Golden Eagles saw the Musketeers control possession in the first half, but starting netminder Mikki Easter was forced to make just one save. Midfielder Katrina Wetherell had a pair of scoring chances for MU, collecting a pair of shots on goal in the first 45 minutes.
Â
Midfielder Hailey Block found the back of the net at the 51:02 mark to give Marquette a 1-0 advantage. She floated a ball from the right side of the box that snuck over the hands of Xavier's Olivia Jenkins and into the upper left corner of the net.
Â
Marquette finished with four shots on goal for the match, but made one of those opportunities count in the win. Mikki Easter and Lauren Schill split time in the shutout, combining for four total saves.
