Junior finishes 18th in high jump
The Marquette University track & field teams concluded action at the 2021 NCAA West Preliminary Championships on Saturday afternoon with action by junior Lindsey Mirkes in the high jump.
Mirkes finished 19th at the meet, clearing a height of 5-9.75, which was the second-best performance of her career. She failed to clear a height of 1.82m, which would have marked a career best, and as a result saw her season come to an end.
"What a year for Lindsey," head coach Bert Rogers said. "She started the season slow as she worked to get healthy and kept getting better and better as the year progressed. The BIG EAST and NCAA meets were the two best of her career and we are excited to have her back next season."
The BIG EAST outdoor champion in the event was joined by senior Marquis Ward at the meet. Ward competed Friday afternoon in the triple jump and also claimed the league title at this year's meet.
Senior Joe Keys has already earned a spot at the national meet in the decathlon and will compete in Eugene, Oregon in two weeks.
