
Marquette has 265 on 2020-21 BIG EAST All-Academic Team

Over 80 percent of MU's student-athletes were recognized for academic prowess
NEW YORK – Eighty-three percent of Marquette University's 321 student-athletes were named to the 2020-21 BIG EAST All-Academic Team, the BIG EAST Conference announced Tuesday.
A total of 265 Marquette student-athletes appeared on the list with men's and women's track and field combining for 75 honorees. This year's total is the second-most Marquette has ever put on the BIG EAST All-Academic Team, just two behind last year's number of 267.
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the BIG EAST's 11 member schools and five affiliate institutions. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in a BIG EAST-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.

There are 3,075 honorees for the 2020-21 academic year. Georgetown led the way with 408 student-athletes honored with Villanova having the second most with 378. UConn had 288 student-athletes receiving certificates, rounding out the top three institutions. Affiliate student-athletes made up 175 of the honorees.
Marquette's student-athletes posted a cumulative grade-point average of 3.45 in the spring semester, while 35 individuals earned perfect 4.0 GPAs. MU's athletes had a 3.42 GPA in the fall and 37 individuals had 4.0 GPAs. A total of 281 MU student-athletes recorded grade-point averages of at least 3.0 in the spring and 270 did so in the fall.
