Partnerships with Opendorse, BrandR and TEAM LAMMI highlight program
The Marquette University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the launch of Marq-U, a comprehensive Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) initiative, which provides its over 300 student-athletes access to industry-leading experts.
Marq-U was specifically designed to best prepare student-athletes to leverage their respective NIL. The comprehensive program provides student-athletes with access to emerging technologies, thought-leaders in marketing, business and law, and industry-leaders in branding, corporate partnerships and group licensing.
The goal of the Marq-U is to elevate, educate and engage with student-athletes so they can actively shape their NIL opportunities.
"We are committed to providing a transformational student-athlete experience at Marquette and the development of our NIL initiative is another example of that focus," Vice President and Director of Athletics Bill Scholl said. "Developing multiple partnerships allows our student-athletes access to the resources necessary to take full advantage of NIL opportunities, while also developing additional relationships designed to provide our student-athletes with the tools needed to be successful in the NIL era."
Marquette has added the Opendorse NIL Bundle – Opendorse Ready™, Monitor™, and Social™ – to support the program's mission to prepare all student-athletes for success in the new era of college sports. Together, the products will empower Marquette athletes to understand, build, and protect their brands with the industry's leading education, marketing, and compliance technology.
Along with Opendorse, the market-leading NIL services provider, athletics has also partnered with the university's colleges of business, communications and law to provide on-going business, legal and marketing education.
Â
The Brandr Group, a brand management, marketing and licensing agency, will assist in managing and administering the school's program of co-branded licensing, sponsorship and media utilizing student-athlete group rights. With decades of collective management experience for some of the world's largest brands, TBG also manages the group rights program for the NFL, NBA and MLB players' associations.
Products that combine team logos and player names and numbers have accounted for a large portion of licensed sports merchandise sales at the professional level for decades, and Marq-U opens the door for the same opportunities for Marquette student-athletes. Fans can expect to be able to purchase official Marquette merchandise, including team jerseys, with the name and number of their favorite players who have joined the respective group licensing program once TBG enters into agreements with applicable school trademark licensees.
TEAM LAMMI, a national media company based in Milwaukee, will provide education and counsel to student-athletes. Learfield Sports is an industry-leading multimedia rights company that represents the department in corporate partnerships and will help facilitate student-athlete opportunities.Â
