Golden Eagles open three-match homestand Thursday night
The Marquette University women's soccer team (1-3-0) dropped a 2-1 decision at Utah State (5-0-1) in non-conference action on the road Sunday afternoon in double overtime.
"This team fought so hard against a tough opponent in a difficult environment," head coach Frank Pelaez said. "We are building a strong foundation on how we want to play and look forward to being back at Valley Fields this week."
After a scoreless first half that saw limited quality opportunities from both sides, the Aggies moved ahead 1-0 at the 57:54 mark after tapping home a cross that deflected off MU netminder Mikki Easter.
In the 83rd minute MU was able to level the score as redshirt freshman Elsi Twombly was credited with a score after a miscommunication between an Aggie defender and keeper Diera Walton. The goal was the first of the season for Twombly.
Marquette finished with nine total shots, three on goal. Easter finished the contest with five saves.
UP NEXT: Marquette opens a three-match homestand on Thursday night when the team hosts UIC at 7 p.m. CT at Valley Fields.
