MSOC Announces Spring 2022 Schedule

MILWAUKEE - Marquette University men's soccer announced its 2022 spring slate on Monday, a schedule which features eight contests, including seven at home. The team begins action on Saturday, Feb. 19 with its annual alumni game at Valley Fields.

"First and foremost, it's great to have a spring schedule this year," said Marquette head coach Louis Bennett. "Spring has always been a time for us to focus on development and pushing forward. We use spring games as test pilots, which is really important. This schedule is a combination of pro teams and top Division I teams, which will give us a good idea of where we are. Having a good spring schedule is essential for us to evolve, and in creating a good basis for what our team will look like in August."

Following the alumni match, the Golden Eagles will face a slate of opponents which includes teams from the Wisconsin and Chicago areas. Eight contests will be played in total, running through the end of April. The lone road competition for MU will be on Saturday, March 5, when the squad travels to Evanston, Illinois, to face Northwestern. All home games will be played at Valley Fields.

Bennett's team will look to build off a 7-8-1 season in which it narrowly fell short of qualifying for the conference tournament.

The Golden Eagles will have to deal with the loss of contributors AJ Franklin, Gabe Kash, Jonathan Robinson, Sam Thornton and Zak Wegner.

Midfielder Edrey Caceres will look to build off his strong inaugural season, while all-conference forwards Lukas Sunesson and Beto Soto both return as well.

MU boasts a wealth of experience across the pitch, including goalkeeper Chandler Hallwood, defensive anchor Alex Mirsberger and do-it-all midfielder Alan Salmeron.
