Golden Eagles honor 12-member senior class
Milwaukee – The Marquette University women's soccer team (7-7-4, 3-4-3 BIG EAST) wrapped up its 2022 regular season with a 1-1 draw against Xavier (12-2-4, 6-0-3 BIG EAST) Thursday night at Valley Fields in BIG EAST action.
Â
Prior to the match, the Golden Eagles honored their 12-member senior class.
Â
Senior Katrina Wetherell got the Golden Eagles on the board first in the 34th minute off a deflection from the Xavier keeper to net her first goal of the season. The MU lead was short-lived as Grace Blumfeldt found the net for Xavier to tie the match just before the half.
Â
The score remained unchanged for the remainder of the contest. Senior keeper Mikki Easter recorded two second-half saves to keep the Musketeers at bay. Easter finished the match with three saves.Â
"We had a lot of opportunities in the first half and were able to convert on one of them," head coach Frank Pelaez said. "We had a game plan and the team executed it perfectly. We tried to disrupt everything they did and I am proud of the girls for believing in what we are trying to do and everyone left what they could out there against a nationally ranked team."
Â
With a UConn win and a Butler Draw, the Golden Eagles were eliminated from post-season competition and concluded their season.
