Golden Eagles use strong second half to pull away from Crusaders and move to 2-0
MILWAUKEE — The Marquette women's basketball team (2-0, 0-0 BIG EAST) used a strong second half to pick up a 75-55 win over Holy Cross Friday evening inside of the Al McGuire Center.Â
"We're really thrilled to get a win on a Friday night," said Marquette head coach Megan Duffy. "It was a little bit ugly up and down, but give Holy Cross a ton of credit. I thought we were back on our heels a little bit at different moments of the game, but I thought we had great contributions from players off the bench."
After an even first two quarters, the Golden Eagles went into the locker room at the half with a 29-25 advantage. Junior forward Liza Karlen once again got out to a hot start, scoring Marquette's first six points of the contest and finishing the first half with 12. She would go on to score 18 points to go along with five rebounds and three assists.
MU came out firing in the third quarter, using a 23-14 advantage in the period to gain some separation, and it never looked back. After taking a 52-39 lead into the fourth, freshman guard Mackenzie Hare caught fire, scoring Marquette's first 13 points of the quarter. In just the second contest of her collegiate career, Hare finished the evening with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor.Â
