Caceres earns second team honors, while Sunesson is named to third team
NEW YORK — A pair of Marquette University men's soccer players were recognized as all-BIG EAST honorees following stellar individual 2022 campaigns, the league office announced Wednesday morning.Â
For the second-consecutive year, sophomore midfielder Edrey Caceres was named to the all-BIG EAST Second Team after playing a critical part with this year's squad. The Houston, Texas, native led the team and ranked tied for third in the league with seven assists, while also tallying four goals to rank second on the squad with 15 total points. He started all 18 matches for the Golden Eagles and recorded 36 shots, 21 of which were on goal.Â
Senior striker Lukas Sunesson adds to a long list of personal recognitions as he was named to the all-BIG EAST third team. The team captain from Sweden makes his third-consecutive all-league team after being named to the first team in Spring 2021 and the second team in Fall 2021. He was responsible for team-best marks of seven goals and 17 points this year, ranking tied for fourth and sixth in the conference in those categories, respectively. While starting in 17 matches, he recorded 36 shots including 21 on frame.Â
