MILWAUKEE – The No. 16 Marquette University women's volleyball team is Sweet 16-bound after a 25-23, 25-20, 25-19 sweep of No. 13 Georgia Tech on Friday evening in the second round of the 2022 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship at the Al McGuire Center.
The Golden Eagles (29-3) set a new program record for wins and were paced by All-BIG EAST outside hitter Aubrey Hamilton with a match-high 17 kills and a .382 hitting percentage. Hamilton also added seven digs, three blocks and an ace. Sophomore Jenna Reitsma chipped in with 11 kills of her own and seven digs.

MU was able to pull out a narrow 25-23 victory in the first set after exchanging points with Georgia Tech throughout the set. It was another tight one in the second set, but two successful challenges by head coach Ryan Theis gave the Golden Eagles a 25-20 win to go up 2-0 in the match. In the third, MU took an early 7-1 lead and didn't look back, taking down Georgia Tech in straight sets.
All-ACC outside hitter Julia Bergman led the Yellow Jackets (21-8) with a team-high 13 kills and added nine digs. Outside hitter Bianca Bertolino added in 14 digs and seven blocks.

- The Golden Eagles have now surpassed the program record for overall wins of 28 set in both 2018 and 2019.
- In total, MU is 8-10 all-time in NCAA tournament play with six trips to the second round and two trips to the regional semifinals.
- The Golden Eagles have won six first round matches and two second round matches, both of which by sweep
- Georgia Tech went 13-5 in the ACC and rose to as high as fifth in the AVCA Coaches Poll this season.
- Georgia Tech's Bergmann was an AVCA First Team All-American in 2021 and entered this weekend third nationally in kills per set.
