Women 4th, Men 6th After Day One of the BIG EAST Championships

Day two of the BIG EAST Championships begin at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS -Ā Friday afternoon the Marquette University men's and women's track & field team kicked off day one of the 2022 BIG EAST Indoor Championships. Multiple Golden Eagles achieved PRs and added their names to the Marquette top ten list.
"Overall, I'm walking out of day one feeling good about what we were able to accomplish," head coach Bert Rogers said.
In the women's weight throw, Allie Flando took home the bronze medal with a throw of 17.97 meters. Lizzie Cagle took fourth behind Flando with a mark of 17.89 meters.
Senior Brielle BuechlerĀ received the bronze medal in the pole vault recording a mark of 3.75 meters.
Senior Megan Wallace placed fifth in the women's pentathlon with a score of 3604. Sophomore Mila Puseljic recorded the No. 9 score in MU history with 3112 points. Puseljic also set a PR in the 60-meter hurdles with a 9.36.
Junior Kendall Pfrimmer ran a PR in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:34.97. Pfrimmer's time place her at No. 3 all-time in Marquette history. Pfrimmer finished ninth overall. Laurel Moneysmith and Mallory Lafever recorded PRs of 17:28.43 and 18:05.08, respectively.
Freshman Daylee Braden rolled to a PR in the 400 meters with a time of 56.73, which places her at No. 7 all-time. Braden qualified for Saturday's final.
In the men's heptathlon, Joe Keys finished day one in first place with 3258 points. Keys achieved the second-best long jump mark in school history with a jump of 7.42 meters. Key's fell just shy of the school record (7.48m) which was set by John Bennett in 1954. Keys also went on to set a personal best in the high jump with a mark of 2.03 meters.
"I'm excited to see what Joe does on day two. He put up his best day one score ever. Hopefully, he's able to build off that on day two and solidify his spot on the national level."
Simon Werven went on to set some personal records as well in the 60m (7.28) and the high jump (1.94 meters). Werven currently sits in fifth place in the heptathlon with 2852 points. Brady Heller finished the day in sixth with a score of 2521 and set a PR of 6.12 meters in the long jump.
Freshman Dan Weizeorick crossed the line in the 5000 meters in a personal best time 14:41.22.
Sam Johnson (60m), Zach Murray (400m), and Patrick Hetlage (mile) all qualified for the day two final of their respective events.
DAY TWO:
"We did what we had to on day one and I'm looking forward to continuing that momentum tomorrow."
Saturday will bring the conclusion of the 2022 BIG EAST Indoor Championships. On tomorrow's schedule include the final three events of the men's heptathlon, as well as the finals of six field and 20 track events.
