WTEN Holds Off Creighton, 4-3, In BIG EAST Tourney

Lara Kaiser secures win at No. 6 singles
The Marquette University women's tennis team (13-9) held on for a 4-3 victory against Creighton (12-10) Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the 2022 BIG EAST Championship in Cayce, S.C.
Marquette is seeded second in the 11-team field at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center and Creighton was the No. 7 seed. With the victory, the Golden Eagles advance to the semifinals on Saturday at 12 p.m. CT against third-seeded Xavier. Â
Lara Kaiser was the hero for the Golden Eagles, breaking a 3-3 tie with a narrow 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 decision at No. 6 singles. She trailed early in the third set and converted on her second chance to close out the match.
Also earning singles wins for Marquette were Emilija Kojcic, who made quick work of her opponent at No. 2, and Elisabeth Desmarais. Desmarais trailed by multiple games early in the first set before taking control in a 7-6, 6-0 win.
The Golden Eagles opened the match by claiming the doubles point with victories at the top-two positions. The No. 1 tandem of Natalija Popovic and Emilija Kojic clinched the point with a 6-3 decision at No. 1.
