MSOC Announces 2022 Schedule

MILWAUKEE — The Marquette University men's soccer team announced its full 2022 schedule Monday afternoon, a slate which is highlighted by 11 matches at Valley Fields.

After a pair of exhibition matches in mid-August, the campaign begins on Thursday, Aug. 25, when the Golden Eagles host Tulsa at 3 p.m. (CT). MU will play six of its first seven contests at home, including four-straight to open the season. Eleven home games are the most by a Marquette squad since the 1987 season.

Marquette opens BIG EAST play on Saturday, Sept. 24, when it travels to Cincinnati, Ohio, to take on Xavier. The league home-opener for the Golden Eagles is Friday, Sept. 30 against Butler, and the regular season will come to a close on Wednesday. Nov. 2, when they host St. John's.

"I believe that we are going to have one of the strongest schedules and one of the most exciting schedules in the country," said Marquette head coach Louis Bennett. "You look at the BIG EAST schedule first, and there are a lot of teams that are going to be really strong. Then in non-conference, we have several teams that are perennial powers in their own leagues. It's also great to get a couple of local rivalries (Wisconsin and Milwaukee) back on the docket."

The schedule includes matches against three teams that finished in the top-10 in last season's final United Soccer Coaches poll (Tulsa, Saint Louis, Georgetown), and five teams which played in the 2021 NCAA tournament.

The Golden Eagles finished 7-8-1 overall and 4-5-1 in BIG EAST action in 2021. The squad returns 17 letterwinners and welcomes nine newcomers in 2022. Among those returning are all-league performers Lukas Sunesson (All-BIG EAST Second Team), Edrey Caceres (All-BIG EAST Second Team) and Beto Soto (All-BIG EAST Third Team).
