
Volleyball off to program-best start with 3-1 win over Butler

MILWAUKEE – Led by a triple-double from setter Yadhira Anchante, the No. 19 Marquette University women's volleyball team claimed a 3-1 win over Butler on Saturday night at the Al McGuire Center for its ninth-straight victory.
The Golden Eagles (11-1, 2-0 BIG EAST) picked up a 25-12 win in the first set and closed the match with 25-8 and 25-19 victories in the third and fourth frames, respectively. They dropped the second set, 25-22, after hitting .174.Â
Anchante posted a career-high 10 kills along with 46 assists and 13 digs for her first triple-double in NCAA action. Outside hitter Jenna Reitsma led MU with a match-high 13 kills on .367 hitting along with 15 digs. Aubrey Hamilton (11 kills and 11 digs) and Carsen Murray (10 kills and five blocks) each reached double figures as well.
The Bulldogs (7-7,1-1 BIG EAST) hit .137 and were led by 11 kills from both Mariah Grunze and Megan Sheridan.

NOTABLE:
- Marquette's 11-1 start to the season is a program record in NCAA Division I action.Â
- Marquette is 18-9 all-time against Butler and is 17-3 since BU joined the BIG EAST for the 2013 campaign. The Golden Eagles swept the previous two meetings and have won eight of the last nine contests, save for a five-set loss at Butler on March 5, 2021.
- Butler defeated DePaul on Friday night in four sets before the match in Milwaukee.
- MU hit a match-high .424 (16-2-33) in the 25-8 third set victory. It is the only time this season an opponent has failed to reach double figures in a set against MU.
- The Golden Eagles trailed 17-13 in the fourth set before rallying with seven-straight points to take the lead for good.
- Five MU players reached double-digit digs, led by libero Carly Skrabak with 19.
- Reitsma and Hamilton each had a match-high 14.5 points as both players had a pair of blocks and Hamilton added two service aces.
