Marquette hits the road for next two matches
The Marquette University women's soccer team (2-2-1) wrapped up its three-match homestand with a 5-0 victory against Green Bay (2-2-0) Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at Valley Fields.
The Golden Eagles received scores from five-different players for the first time since a 5-0 victory over Chicago State in the opener of the 2020-21 campaign. MU finished with a 22-3 advantage in shots and netminder Chloe Olson, making her first career start, finished with a pair of breakaway saves in the shutout win.
"The team has really been wanting to explode offensively and we were able to do that today from the opening moments of the match," head coach Frank Pelaez said. "They want it more than I do and that's the cool thing. The team knows we are improving and it was good to see that pay off today with five goals."
Marquette opened the scoring in the first minute of play, with senior Alex Campana heading home a long service from Mia Haertle just 57 seconds into action. MU would move ahead 3-0 after just 23 minutes of play, courtesy of scores from forwards Elsi Twombly and Kate Gibson. Each of the five players to find the back of the net on Sunday did so for the first time in 2022.
Marquette returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 4 p.m. CT when the team opens a two-match road trip at St. Thomas.
