Golden Eagles head to state of Minnesota this week
The Marquette University women's soccer team (2-2-1) continues its non-conference schedule this week with a pair of outings on the road.
  Â
The Golden Eagles open the week at St. Thomas (3-1-1) at 4 p.m. CT on Thursday, Sept. 8 before wrapping up the road swing at Minnesota (2-3-1) on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. CT.
  Â
Following this week's action, Marquette concludes non-league action on Sept. 15 when the program hosts Western Michigan.
MU Owns Series SuccessÂ
  Â
Marquette has faced St. Thomas on just one occasion, posting a 3-0 victory at Valley Fields last season on Sept. 12, 2021.
  Â
Maggie Starker, Rachel Johnson and Alexa Maletis each netted goals for MU in the victory.
  Â
The Golden Eagles are 2-4-1 all-time against Minnesota, having most recently earned a 1-0 victory in Minneapolis on Sept. 5, 2019. Â Midfielder Josie Kelderman scored the lone goal of that match, the only tally of her career to this point. Â
MU Scores Early & Often vs. GB
  Â
Marquette's Alex Campana opened the scoring just 57 seconds into the match against Green Bay and while it would prove to be the only score MU would need, that didn't stop her teammates from finding the back of the net as well.
  Â
Five different players scored on Sunday afternoon at Valley Fields, including Julia O'Neill and Cate Downs, who netted their respective first collegiate goals.
  Â
Sunday's action marked the team's highest scoring output since the 2020-21 opener against Chicago State, with five players also scoring in the 5-0 win.Â
  Â
Marquette's seven goals this season have all been scored by different players. Â The eighth score was an own goal by CMU in the 2-1 victory on Aug. 21.
Olson Earns Shutout & HonorÂ
  Â
Sophomore netminder Chloe Olson made her first career start in net on Sept. 4 against Green Bay, finishing with a shutout and a pair of saves on breakaway opportunities.
  Â
Olson was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her efforts in a match that was her first action since Sept. 2, 2021 in the second half at BYU (lone appearance in 2021).
Top Scorers Return In 2022Â
  Â
Marquette returns each of its top four scorers from 2021, a group that accounted for 42 total points (16 goals and 10 assists).
  Â
Three-time All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree Katrina Wetherell topped the roster in both categories (5 g, 12 points) and senior Rachel Johnson, who started all 17 matches, was second with four scores and 11 points.
  Â
All-BIG EAST Freshman Team selection Maggie Starker netted a pair of match winners in her four-goal debut campaign and junior Elsi Twombly already owns seven scores in her first two-plus seasons of action.
  Â
Overall, Marquette returns a group of eight players who accounted for 21 of the team's 23 goals last season.
MU Celebrates 30th BirthdayÂ
  Â
The Golden Eagles will celebrate their 30th birthday in 2022, welcoming back former players to campus Oct. 13-16 for a reunion.
  Â
The program has collected nearly 400 wins during its tenure and participated in the NCAA tournament on 13 occasions. Â MU has claimed 10 regular season league titles in Conference USA and BIG EAST action and four conference tournament titles.
