Jordan King scores career-high 31 points in start-to-finish win for Golden Eagles
MILWAUKEE — The Marquette women's basketball team (11-6, 4-4 BIG EAST) picked up a wire-to-wire victory on Saturday afternoon over Providence, winning 80-57 inside of the Al McGuire Center.
"I'm really proud of our overall team contributions," said Marquette head coach Megan Duffy. "Jordan King was tremendous, after having a slow start she really got hot the rest of the game and then the list goes on with Claire (Kaifes) stepping up for us, Makiyah (Williams), Charia Smith, Nia Clark. I just loved the versatility and depth of our team today."
The Golden Eagles were propelled by strong defense and scoring career highs from the guard duo of senior Jordan King and freshman Emily La Chapell, who finished with 31 and 13 points, respectively.
A pair of early jumpers from La Chapell helped the Marquette offense get off to a strong start, as MU went up 8-2 quickly to trigger a Providence timeout. In the second quarter, King helped the Golden Eagles extend their lead as she scored 13 points in the frame to help MU get out to a 37-24 advantage at the half.
After allowing the Friars to climb back within six points midway through the third quarter, Marquette responded with a 9-0 run then continued to pile it on as it took its largest lead of the game, an 18-point advantage into the final 10 minutes. From there, MU kept its foot on the accelerator to earn its most dominant win of BIG EAST play this season.
In a game which the Golden Eagles never trailed, Marquette took care of business on the glass, posting a 44-31 rebounding advantage including a career-high tying eight from senior guard Claire Kaifes, while also forcing 23 Friar turnovers.
The Friars were led by Janai Crooms, who paced the squad with 15 points and seven rebounds.-
Jordan King finished with a career-high 31 points to lead all scorers. This was her seventh 20-plus point game this season, and the 10th of her career. Her previous career high of 30 came on Dec. 10, 2022 against Loyola Chicago.

King also had five boards, five assists and two steals in the contest.

Emily La Chapell finished the contest with a career-high 13 points, the fourth double-figure scoring game of her career.

Claire Kaifes tied her career high and led the squad with a game-high eight rebounds, while also going for eight points and a pair of steals.

Charia Smith played a career-high 18 minutes, and tied her career high of four rebounds.

Chloe Marotta made the 134th appearance of her career this afternoon, moving into a tie for number two all-time in career games played at MU. She tied Angel Robinson (2007-11).

Marotta also moved up to 11th in career rebounds with 755, passing Christina Quaye (2003-07).

With five assists in the game, Jordan King moved into eighth on Marquette's all-time career assists record list. She passed Nicki Taggart (1996-98), and now has 424 in her career.

King also moved up to 26th in career points at Marquette with 1,154, moving past Lori Goerlitz (1991-95) and Heidi Bowman (1997-01).

Marquette never trailed in the contest, leading for 36:31 of action.

Marquette finished the game shooting 48.5 percent (32-of-66) from the floor, 40.0 percent (8-of-20) from 3-point range and 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from the free throw line

With the win, Marquette is now 24-5 all-time against Providence, with wins in 12-straight meetings.
