Golden Eagles travel to New York for important BIG EAST battle vs Red Storm
QUEENS, N.Y. — The Marquette women's basketball team (11-6, 4-4 BIG EAST) travels to New York this week as it faces St. John's (14-3, 5-3 BIG EAST) on Wednesday, Jan. 18. The Golden Eagles and the Red Storm will tip-off at 6 p.m. (CT) from Carnesecca Arena in Queens, New York. The game will be broadcast by BIG EAST Digital Network on FloHoops with Drew Casey (play-by-play), Kim Adams (analyst) and Meghan Caffrey (sideline) on the call. In the team's most recent outing on Saturday, Marquette earned a dominant 80-57 victory over Providence in the Al McGuire Center. Senior guard Jordan King continued her scoring hot streak, going for a career-high 31 points while also recording five boards and five assists. The Golden Eagles never trailed in the contest, taking an early advantage and never looking back as they posted their largest margin of victory in league play.
The Red Storm enter the contest with a 14-3 overall record after going an unblemished 9-0 in non-conference play to open the year. They are 5-3 against BIG EAST foes this season, most recently suffering a narrow 64-61 loss at No. 25 Villanova on Saturday. St. John's is 10-1 at home this year.Â
St. John's is led statistically this year by guard Jayla Everett, a senior who is averaging team-best marks of 16.9 points and 3.3 assists per game. Senior forward Rayven Peeples is bringing down a team-best 9.0 rebounds per contest.Â
Saturday's game will be the 31st all-time between Marquette and St. John's, a series which dates back to 2005. The Golden Eagles hold a firm 20-10 advantage in the series, including wins in 10 of the past 11 meetings. Last season, MU won in Queens 70-65 before earning a 79-75 victory at home in Milwaukee.

• In the win, King went for a career-high 31 points, to go along with five boards, five assists and a pair of steals. She shot 52.2 percent (12-of-23) from the floor in the contest.Â
• This was the seventh Weekly Honor Roll appearance of King's career, and her third of the season.Â
LA CHAPELL EARNS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK NOD
• After posting one of the best statistical performances of her young career against Providence on Saturday, Emily La Chapell was named as the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.Â
• In the win, La Chapell went for 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting, as well as four assists and three rebounds.Â
• This is her second Freshman of the Week honor this season.
LAST TIME OUT
• Marquette took down Providence in convincing fashion on Saturday at the Al McGuire Center, posting an 80-57 win.
• In a game in which Marquette never trailed, the Golden Eagles got off to a strong start and never looked back. After a low-scoring first quarter from both sides, MU used a 26-18 second quarter to gain separation and take a 13-point lead into the half.Â
• After a Friars run which cut the Marquette lead to just six early in the fourth quarter, MU went on a 9-0 run then continued to pile on en route to its largest win of conference play. Â
• Jordan King had another stellar performance, going for a career-high 31 points to go along with five boards and five steals. Emily La Chapell also came up big for the Golden Eagles with a career high, scoring 13 points in the outing.Â
KING RANKS AMONG THE LEAGUE'S ELITE
• While having the best statistical season of her career, senior guard Jordan King has proven to be one of the top players in the league and ranks among the BIG EAST's elite in several statistical categories.Â
• King is averaging career-bests in nearly every statistical category, and is the only player in the BIG EAST averaging at least 15 points, four assists and two steals per contest.
• Along with ranking 11th in the league in scoring at 15.9 points per game, she also ranks in the top-15 in assists (4th - 4.1), steals (4th - 2.2), assist-to-turnover ratio (7th - 1.53), field goal percentage (11th - .413) and free throw percentage (8th - .768).
MAROTTA MAKING HISTORY
• In her fifth and final season as a Golden Eagle, senior forward Chloe Marotta continues to etch her name in the record book in several statistical categories.Â
• Wednesday's game will mark her 135th career appearance for MU, as she moves into sole possession of second-all time in career games played as she moves past Angel Robinson (2007-11). The only player who has appeared in more games is her former teammate Lauren Van Kleunen, who played 160.
• Additionally, Marotta ranks 11th in career rebounds with 755 and is just 13 from moving into the top 10.Â
