
Wright Sets School Record in 300 Meters

MU travels to Grand Valley State Jan. 27-28
CHICAGO, Illinois - The Marquette University men's and women's track & field team concluded its first indoor meet of 2023 at the Blue Demon Alumni Classic Friday evening. The Golden Eagles recorded multiple personal bests, five first-place finishes and one school record.
"It was a pretty good opener to the new year, and I was pleased with the effort overall," said head coach Bert Rogers. "We're still breaking off a little bit of rust from the holiday break, but we had some pretty good PRs and the school record from Julian in the 300."
Senior Julian Wright had a record-setting performance en route to winning the 300 meters. Wright broke the school record with a time of 34.55. Wright previously held the third fastest time, which he also set at DePaul last season. The previous record holder, Tyler O'Brien set the record in 2008 with a time of 34.73.
In the same event, Zachariah Murray recorded a personal best time of 35.07, No. 4 all-time. Murray finished runner-up to Wright in the event.
On the women's side of the 300 meters, Daylee Braden finished first overall with a time of 40.79. Morgan Parzych finished third with a personal best time of 43.21
In the high jump, Harry Baker tied his lifetime best of 2.00 meters/6 feet, 6.75 inches and took first on the men's side. On the women's side, sophomore Annika Bynum took first with a mark of 1.65 meters/5 feet, 5 inches. Bynum earns her first victory in the event this season after taking second in the first two meets. Emma Ludwig cleared a mark of 1.60 meters/5 feet, 3 inches to earn runner-up honors.
Back on the track, junior Dan Weizeorick ran to a first-place finish in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:22.24. Weizeorick finished a second off his personal best time.
Other Notables:
- Mitchell Van Vooren finished runner-up in the 400 meters with a personal best time of 49.26.
- In the pole vault, Kaitlyn Huebner and Emma Kingsley both cleared a height of 3.21 meters/10 feet, 6.25 inches to finish second and third, respectively.
- Veronica Walinski took third in the shot put with a mark of 12.56 meters/41 feet, 2.5 inches. Walinski also recorded a PR of 15.26 meters/51 feet, 3.75 inches in the weight throw.
- Freshman John Pitta recorded a PR of 13.18 meters/43 feet, 3 inches in the triple jump and took third overall.
- Gretchen Pfeiffer earned the bronze in the 800 meters with a PR of 2:25.47. Pfeiffer also recorded a PR in the 300 meters with a time of 46.61.
- The men's 4x400 relay team of Zachariah Murray, Christian Peterson, Mitchell Van Vooren and Julian Wright took third place with a time of 3:20.37
- The women's 4x400 relay team of Arianna Mansavage, Morgan Parzych, Juru Okwaramoi and Daylee Braden also finished in third place with a time of 3:55.03.
