MSOC Falls to UConn 3-2 in BIG EAST Thriller

Golden Eagles battle to the end of an intense match in Storrs
Storrs, CONNECTICUT  – The Marquette University men's soccer team (7-5-1, 1-4-0 BIG EAST) drops tough 3-2 decision to UConn (7-5-1, 3-2-0 BIG EAST) Saturday evening at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.

The Golden Eagles opened the match aggressively, and it paid off early with Jai Hsieh-Bailey finding the back of the net with a header for his first career goal in the fifth minute. The goal was assisted by Edrey Caceres and Ryan Amond.

Despite UConn controlling total minutes of possession in the first half, in the 31st minute Noah Madrigal dispossessed the Huskies and found Abdoul Karim Pare whose heel flipped assist found Beto Soto for the second MU goal of the match.

In the 43rd minute the Huskies broke through Marquette's backline and crossed it to Kieran Chandler who found the back of the net to put UConn on the board.

UConn came out of halftime with an aggressive approach to try to tie the score, the Huskies had five shots and held 70 percent of possession by the 60th minute of the second half. Â

In the 67th minute of the match graduate forward Brooklyn Merl was assessed a straight red card. The Huskies' Ayoub Lajhar was booked for a straight red card as well, but the Golden Eagles were forced to play a man down for the rest of the match due to Merl being on the field.

Shortly after the red card, the Huskies found the back of the in the 70th minute to knot the score at 2-2.

In the 73rd minute Kieran Chandler was booked for a straight red card after a hard foul on Kyle Bebej and were forced to play a man down.

In the 81st minute Scott Testori scored the game winning goal for the Huskies to give UConn the 3-2 advantage.
