One program record and 11 personal bests for MU
CHICAGO – The Marquette track and field teams competed at the Blue Demon Holiday Invitational on Friday in the final meet before the new year. One program record and 11 personal bests were set.
Daylee Braden set a new program record in the 600m with a time of 1:32.44 to place first. It was the first time Braden ran the 600m for the Golden Eagles.
"Based on her training and our talks, I knew we could do this," said Bert Rogers. "We saw it on the schedule and said, let's try this. She was crushing it the last several weeks in practice. She came out fast but was really good at holding her splits."
Annika Bynum took first in the high jump, clearing 1.76m/5ft 9.25in, tying her PR mark that is second all-time at MU.
Josh Pirogovsky placed third and set a new PR in the weight throw with a mark of 13.89m/45ft 7 in.
Gretchen Pfifer claimed first place after running the 800m in 2:26.33.
Silani Brown-Carr ran a new personal best in the 60m with a time of 7.93 seconds. Julia Beck had a new PR in the 200m at 27.48 seconds.
Freshmen Haneefa Adam (4.98m/16ft 4.25in) and Sara Stout (1.53m/5ft .25in) set new PRs in the women's long jump and high jump, respectively.
Four freshmen set new PRS in the 60m dash: Bryce Alandy (8.18), Addison Pischke (8.33), Joshua Bailey Jr (7.30) and Philip Johnson (7.56) all improved from their first meet times with the Golden Eagles.
"We had a number of PRs today, overall, it was a very good day," said Rogers. "It's early on in the season, this will set us up well going into the new year."
