
Track & Field Concludes Successful Trip to Madison

MU heads to Chicago for BIG EAST Championships on Feb. 24-25
MADISON, Wis. – The Marquette University men's and women's track & field team concluded the final meet of the regular season Friday evening at the Badger Valentine Invitational hosted by Wisconsin.
The Golden Eagles made the short trip up to Madison for one last tune-up ahead of next week's BIG EAST Championships in Chicago.
"It was a pretty solid day with a bunch of PRs on the track and in the field events, as well as some top 10 marks," said head coach Bert Rogers. "Overall, I'm pretty happy with where we are at and ready for BIG EAST."
In the high jump, Harry Baker leaped to a new personal best of 2.07 meters / 6 feet, 9.5 inches to take first in the event. Baker's mark is No. 9 in MU history and currently ranks first in the BIG EAST. Annika Bynum took first on the women's side with a mark of 1.65 meters / 5 feet, 5 inches.
Senior Veronica Walinski threw a personal best in the shot put with a distance of 13.93 meters / 45 feet, 8.5 inches, the No. 10 mark in school history. Mikayla Wise also tossed a personal best in the event with a mark of 13.74 meters / 45 feet, 1 inch. Those marks currently rank first and third in the conference.
Alex Lesperance earned runner-up honors in the 60 meters with a personal best of 6.99, the 10th fastest in MU history. Lesperance also earned the silver medal in the long jump with a season-best mark of 7.02 meters / 23 feet, 0.5 inches.
Kate Jochims took the gold in the mile with a personal best time of 4:58.04. Anna Penzkover also made the podium with a 3-second PR of 5:12.45.
Kaylee Hopp also took home the win in the triple jump with a mark of 11.55 meters / 37 feet, 10.75 inches. Madison Miller placed third with a mark of 10.85 meters / 35 feet, 7.25 inches, tying her season best.
