
Track & Field Set for BIG EAST Indoor Championships

Day one begins Friday, Feb. 24 at 9:30 a.m. CT
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's and women's track & field team heads to Chicago this weekend for the 2023 BIG EAST Indoor Championships presented by Jeep.
DePaul will be hosting the meet at tge Dr. Conrad Worrill Track and Field Center at Gately Park on Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25. Action begins Friday at 9:30 a.m. CT with the women's weight throw. Live coverage of the BIG EAST Championships will be available through the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports with a paid subscription. Live Results for both days can be found here.
At last year's indoor championships, the men finished sixth and the women seventh.
LAST TIME OUT
MU competed at the Badger Valentine Invitational this past weekend as a final tune-up for the conference championships.
A handful of Golden Eagles head into the BIG EAST Championships with some of the top marks in the conference.
In the high jump, Baker and Bynum go into the conference championships with two of the best marks in the BIG EAST. Baker currently holds the top mark in the conference after his performance in Madison last weekend. Bynum cleared a height of 1.71 meters / 5 feet, 7.25 inches at DePaul back on Dec. 9 for the second-best mark in the league.
In the throws, Mikayla Wise has top three marks in both the shot put (13.74 meters / 45 feet, 8.5 inches) and weight throw (16.85 meters / 51 feet, 5.75 inches). Wise achieved both marks at last weekend's Badger Valentine Invitational.
Fellow thrower, Veronica Walinski holds the top mark in the conference in the shot put with her performance in Madison. Walinski currently has the sixth-best mark in the weight throw (15.69 meters / 51 feet, 5.75 inches).
In the 400 meters, Juniors Julian Wright and Zachariah Murray both hold top five times in the conference. Wright and Murray recorded the third (48.42) and fourth (48.50) times, respectively, in the league at the Meyo Invitational on Feb. 3.

- Kate Jochims finished first in the mile with a PR of 4:58.04. Anna Penzkover finished third with a PR of 5:12.45
