Track & Field Set for BIG EAST Indoor Championships

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's and women's track & field team heads to Chicago this weekend for the 2023 BIG EAST Indoor Championships presented by Jeep.

DePaul will be hosting the meet at tge Dr. Conrad Worrill Track and Field Center at Gately Park on Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25. Action begins Friday at 9:30 a.m. CT with the women's weight throw. At last year's indoor championships, the men finished sixth and the women seventh.

LAST TIME OUT
MU competed at the Badger Valentine Invitational this past weekend as a final tune-up for the conference championships.

Harry Baker cleared a personal best height of 2.07 meters / 6 feet, 9.5 inches in the high jump to take first place. Baker's mark is No. 9 all-time at Marquette
Annika Bynum won the high jump on the women's side, clearing the bar at 1.65 meters / 5 feet, 5 inches
Kate Jochims finished first in the mile with a PR of 4:58.04. Anna Penzkover finished third with a PR of 5:12.45
In the triple jump, Kaylee Hopp took first with a mark of 11.55 meters / 37 feet, 10.75 inches
Veronica Walinski threw the 10th-best mark in school history in the shot put with a throw of 13.93 meters / 45 feet, 8.5 inches

TOP MARKS IN THE BIG EAST
A handful of Golden Eagles head into the BIG EAST Championships with some of the top marks in the conference.

In the high jump, Baker and Bynum go into the conference championships with two of the best marks in the BIG EAST. Baker currently holds the top mark in the conference after his performance in Madison last weekend. Bynum cleared a height of 1.71 meters / 5 feet, 7.25 inches at DePaul back on Dec. 9 for the second-best mark in the league.

In the throws, Mikayla Wise has top three marks in both the shot put (13.74 meters / 45 feet, 8.5 inches) and weight throw (16.85 meters / 51 feet, 5.75 inches). Wise achieved both marks at last weekend's Badger Valentine Invitational.

Fellow thrower, Veronica Walinski holds the top mark in the conference in the shot put with her performance in Madison. Walinski currently has the sixth-best mark in the weight throw (15.69 meters / 51 feet, 5.75 inches).

In the 400 meters, Juniors Julian Wright and Zachariah Murray both hold top five times in the conference. Wright and Murray recorded the third (48.42) and fourth (48.50) times, respectively, in the league at the Meyo Invitational on Feb. 3.

Marquis Ward (No. 4), John Pitta (No. 6) and Casey Carlson (No. 8) all have top 10 marks in the conference in the high jump. Ward (No. 6) and Pitta (No.7) also hold top 10 marks in the triple jump
In the weight throw, Vinnie Voudrie has the fourth-best mark (17.57 meters / 57 feet, 7.75 inches) and Trey Baskin holds the sixth (16.70 meters / 54 feet, 9.5 inches)
Hopp's mark of 11.76 meters / 38 feet, 7 inches in the triple jump is No. 5 in the league
With a time of 56.34, Arianna Mansavage holds the sixth fastest time in the 400 meters
Emma Ludwig has the No. 6 mark (1.65 meters / 5 feet, 5 inches) in the high jump in the BIG EAST
Alex Lesperance mark of 7.02 meters / 23 feet, 0.5 inches in the long jump is No. 6 in the conference
