Golden Eagles now travel to Cincinnati to face Xavier on Saturday
MILWAUKEE — The Marquette women's basketball team (18-9, 11-7 BIG EAST) fell to RV Creighton on Wednesday night inside of the Al McGuire Center, losing 55-44.
"I'm just disappointed overall with tonight's game," said Marquette head coach Megan Duffy. "I thought Creighton did a great job of making some timely baskets, and we struggled at times to scor."
Despite holding the Bluejays to their second-lowest scoring output of the season, the Golden Eagles struggled to find an offensive rhythm as they saw a four-game winning streak come to a close.
The teams exchanged blows throughout the first half, neither side going up by more than a couple of possessions at any point. Creighton took a 26-25 lead into the locker room, but came out strong with a 9-0 run at the start of the third quarter to gain separation for the first time.
The Bluejays took advantage as the Marquette offense fell stagnant in the third quarter, the Golden Eagles shooting just 1-of-11 from the field in the stanza. The Creighton lead grew to as many as 14 points before the quarter was over. MU eventually clawed back within six, but that's as close as it would get.
Senior forward Chloe Marotta and junior forward Liza Karlen each finished in double-figures for Marquette, finishing with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Marotta also led the team on the glass with seven boards.
Creighton (20-7, 14-5 BIG EAST) was led by Morgan Maly, who finished with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. All 55 CU points came from starters.
