Golden Eagles take first win of the season
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team (1-8) earned their first victory of the season, 5-2 over UIC (3-5) Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles opened the match by claiming the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 2 positions, No. 1 duo Emilija Kojcic and Elisabeth Desmarais trailed early in the match but rallied back for a 7-5 win to clinch the doubles point.
Emilija Kojcic and Sarah Badawi claimed the two straight-set singles victory for the Golden Eagles at the No. 1 and No. 5 spots. Kojcic earned her fourth straight singles victory with her win against UIC.
Senior Elisabeth Desmarais secured the team decision with a tie-break win at the No. 3 spot.
Senior Elizabeth Ferdman also chipped in a point for Marquette taking a tie-break win at No. 6.
Despite sustaining an injury during the first set, senior Julieanne Bou battled through three sets but came up short in a hard-fought effort for the Golden Eagles at No. 2.
