Marquette Women's Tennis Posts Strong Showing at Gopher Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Marquette University women's tennis team competed at the Gopher Invitational this weekend.
Freshman Lea Holmlund, from Stockholm, Sweden, made her collegiate debut for the Golden Eagles with a three-set victory over Karolina Skowronski of the University of Milwaukee, 3-6, 6-4, 10-5.
Marquette's Lizzie Stuckslager also saw her first collegiate action, adding to the Golden Eagles' singles success with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Lily Olson of St. Thomas.
The Golden Eagles' returning players also delivered strong performances, as Aiyana Abbott, Maria Poon and Elena Duva each earned singles victories.
Abbott defeated Yangjiaxin Li of Northern Iowa, 6-4, 7-6. Poon earned a three-set victory over Iben Storkaas of Northern Illinois, 6-2, 6-7, 10-5. Duva also picked up a three-set win, defeating Northern Illinois' Yangjiaxin Li, 6-0, 6-7, 10-4.

The Golden Eagles will return to action Friday, Oct. 2 through Sunday, Oct. 4, at the Michigan State Invitational in East Lansing, Michigan.
