MU crosses halfway point of indoor season
SOUTH BEND, Indiana – The Marquette University men's and women's track & field teams passed the halfway point of the indoor season with the conclusion of a pair of meets this weekend. MU sent representatives to the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame and the Tadd Metzger Invitational hosted by Carthage College.
"We had a good weekend and I was pleased with the intensity we brought," said head coach Bert Rodgers. "We are in a good spot and I like where the team is at as we roll into the heart of the season."
Meyo Invitational
The Golden Eagles competed Friday and Saturday at Notre Dame.
Dan Weizeorick rolled to a 7-second personal best in the 5k with a time of 14:34.57. Weizeorick climbs up to No. 6 all-time at Marquette with that time. David Zeller finished in a personal best time as well with a time of 14:47.54.
On day two, Kaylee Hopp moved up the all-time rankings in the triple jump with a personal best mark of 11.74 meters/38 feet, 6.25 inches. That mark puts Hopp at No. 7 all-time at MU.
Harry Baker made the podium in the high jump taking third place with a personal best mark of 2.01 meters/6 feet, 7 inches.
Tadd Metzger Invitational
22 Golden Eagles made it onto the podium at Carthage, and six claimed victory in their events.
High jumpers Emma Ludwig and Natalia Jackowski placed first and second. Ludwig took down the event with a mark of 1.60 meters/5 feet, 3 inches. Jackowski finished runner-up to her fellow Golden Eagles, clearing a height of 1.55 meters/5 feet, 1 inch.
The Marquette sprinters took down the top four spots in the 55-meter finals. Freshman Ja'Miah Cochran claimed gold with a collegiate-best time of 7.45. Siani Brown-Carr (7.47) and Payton Hanselman (7.51) joined Cochran on the podium taking second and third, respectively. Sydney Moore rounds out the top four spots with a PR of 7.76.
Hanselman (27.03) went on to win the 200 meters and Brown-Carr (27.11) followed to receive runner-up honors. Freshman Justin Juniel went on to win the 200 meters on the men's side with a time of 23.06.
It was another MU sweep in the women's 600 meters. Stephanie Mauzer (1:44.29), Gretchen Pfieffer (1:45.74) and Audrey Grimm (1:46.51) finished one, two and three in the event.
Other Notables:
Marquette splits up the squad again next week for a pair of meets at Grand Valley State and Indiana. Both meets will take place on Friday, Feb. 10.

- Emily Noone finished the mile in under 5-minutes at the Meyo Invitational with a new PR of 4:59.52
- Team captain Juru Okwaramoi rolled to a PR of 25.71 in the 200 meters at Notre Dame
- Freshman John Pitta took fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.64 meters/44 feet, 9 inches. His mark would have been good for first at Carthage
- At Notre Dame, Julian Wright (48.42) ran his second-fastest time ever and Zachariah Murray (48.50) recorded his third-fastest time in the 400 meters
- At Carthage, sophomore Madison Miller won the triple jump with a season-best jump of 10.85 meters/35 feet, 7.25 inches
- Mikaela Sullivan took first in the 800 meters at the Tadd Metzger Invitational with a time of 2:26.77
