NEW YORK – Marquette University men's lacrosse players Bobby O'Grady, Andrew Bowman and Mason Woodward all earned BIG EAST Conference weekly honors the league announced on Monday afternoon.
O'Grady was selected as the BIG EAST Attack Player of the Week for the second time in his career after posting six goals and an assist in MU's season-opening 17-2 win over Lindenwood on Saturday. Andrew Bowman was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, while Mason Woodward earned recognition on the weekly honor roll.
O'Grady picked up where he left off last season with 45 goals in his freshman campaign. The native of Milton, Massachusetts posted his eighth career hat trick and third game with at least six goals and seven points. He scored four goals during the opening quarter against LU and once each in the second and third. O'Grady was an All-BIG EAST Preseason Team selection after first team all-league honors last season in addition to freshman of the year and five freshman of the week accolades.
Bowman began his rookie campaign on Saturday with a pair of goals out of the midfield while starting his first NCAA game. The native of Nanaimo, British Columbia is the ninth MU player to earn BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors and just the fifth MU freshman to score at least two goals in his debut (O'Grady, Anthony Orsini, Devon Cowan, Chris Kirschner).
Woodward helped the Golden Eagles limit Lindenwood to just two goals, the second-lowest total surrendered in program history. The two-time USILA All-American notched five ground balls, one caused turnover and scored his third career goal in the third quarter.
The Golden Eagles resume action on Saturday, Feb. 11 in Salt Lake City against Utah at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Faceoff is slated for 1 p.m. Central time in the Beehive State.
