Golden Eagles back on the road Feb. 11 at Georgetown
The No. 10/10 Marquette University men's basketball team (19-6, 11-3 BIG EAST) dropped an 87-72 decision at No. 21/21 UConn (19-6, 8-6 BIG EAST) Tuesday night in BIG EAST Conference action.
The loss snapped Marquette's five-game winning streak and moved the Golden Eagles out of a tie for first place with Xavier (11-2), which returns to action Friday night at Butler.
Guard Tyler Kolek scored 17 points and forward Ben Gold chipped in a career-high 12 points.
Marquette's offensive attack wasn't able to ever get on track, including a 5-of-21 effort from deep, while UConn was able to knock down 12-of-23 from behind the 3-point line and grab 21 offensive rebounds, which led to 27 second-chance points.
Marquette knocked down just 5-of-15 shots to start the game while UConn converted on over 70 percent of its opportunities for a majority of the first half. The Golden Eagles trailed by many as 20 points in the opening stanza and 46-29 at the intermission after UConn banked in a 3-pointer from halfcourt as time expired.

- Freshman Ben Gold's 12 points were his most since netting a season-high 11 points against Central Michigan on Nov. 10

- Guard Sean Jones returned to the lineup after missing three games with a wrist injury and finished with 11 points, matching a season high.
