Trio helped Marquette to BIG EAST title
Marquette University men's basketball players Tyler Kolek, Oso Ighodaro and Kam Jones have been named to the BIG EAST all-league squads, the conference office announced Sunday afternoon.
Kolek, a BIG EAST Player of the Year candidate, was named All-BIG EAST First Team (unanimous selection) and both Ighodaro and Jones were tabbed All-BIG EAST Second Team. The trio wasn't selected to any of the league's preseason teams and only Jones (BIG EAST All-Freshman Team in 2021-22) has previously earned a postseason accolade.
Voting is conducted via a survey of the league's head coaches, who can't vote for their own players.
Kolek is ranked among the BIG EAST leaders in five categories and tops the conference (second in the nation) in assists per game (7.9). He has collected three-straight double-doubles and is also fourth in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.37).
Ighodaro is one of the league's most improved players and is currently ranked among the top players in the BIG EAST in field goal percentage (3rd, .656 – 6th in nation), rebounds (16th, 5.8) and assists per game (14th, 3.3). He has scored double figures in 24 outings and owns a trio of double-doubles.
Jones leads the team in scoring with 15.3 points per game and is ninth in the BIG EAST. He is one of the league's top 3-point shooters and has scored double figures in 24-of-31 games and is ranked second in the conference in treys per game (2.8).
Marquette (25-6, 17-3 BIG EAST) earned its first-ever outright BIG EAST regular season title in 2022-23 and is the No. 1 seed in the upcoming league tournament. MU opens quarterfinal play on Thursday, March 9 at 11 a.m. CT against the Butler/St. John's winner.
The Golden Eagles have had at least one player honored each year since the program began league affiliation with the Midwestern Collegiate Conference in 1989-90.
